How to Start and Run Your Home Business Successfully

Monday, December 14th, 2009

With the recession, many people will use redundancy payments or the opportunity afforded by losing a job to set up in business by themselves and start their budding empire. Running a business from your home can be a low cost and practical way to get yourself going and test whether you have what it takes to offer a product or service that customers will want to buy.

There are a number of things to look out for when starting a business from home. Firstly, if you have a mortgage, you must tell your lender and your home insurance provider that you will be running a business from premises in which they have an interest. It may cost a little more to insure any business assets based at home but better to be safe than sorry. You should look at getting appropriate business insurance anyway to cover you whilst you working either at other people`s places of work or to indemnify you against claims for malpractice or poor workmanship.

If you plan to use an existing room as an office then it is unlikely that you will need planning permission. However, if you intend to use, say, the garage, for noisy or heavy engineering type works then you should ask the planning office if any permissions are required. Likewise, if you expect to dedicate one room in the house to running your business then you will need to consider paying business rates instead of domestic rates for that portion of the home. Be careful here though since dedicating a part of your home to your new business could compromise your capital gains exemption when you sell the house and you may be liable for a portion of tax on the room(s) used for business.

On the flip side, you can claim a number of allowances for the portion of the house dedicated to business use. You are able to claim some heating, lighting and council tax costs as a business expense in your tax return. Be sure to check with HMRC on the rules relating to running a business from your home.

Working from home brings freedom from commuting, costs very little and can fit very well with a personal family life. But if you have not been used to working from home before then some may find it very lonely, intrusive and easy to become distracted by other members of the family. Unlike leaving an office or factory in the evening, it can be hard to draw a line between work and leisure.

There are specific instances when you shouldn`t really consider running a business from home. If you work with hazardous chemicals, heavy machinery, generate odour(s) or have frequent work visitors then it may be better to look for specialized premises. Otherwise, there are many other money making ideas where running a business from home makes a great deal of sense.

Make Money with Private Label E-book Resell Rights

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Each year, million of Americans think about working from home.  Many of those individuals are either stay at home parents, retired, or disabled.  Working from home allows many individuals, who otherwise would be unemployed, to generate an income. While the previously mentioned individuals most commonly work from home, you do not have to fall into one of those categories to be a home worker.  If fact, if you just feel like working form home, you can.

One of the many reasons why working from home has increased in popularity is due to the limited number of expenses. When you think about it, the cost of working a traditional job can easily add up. You may not give it any thought, but, in a way, your gasoline, travel time, food away from home, and drinks away from home, can all be considered extra expenses. This is because if you were working from home, you wouldn’t necessarily have to pay them.  That is why a large number of everyday individuals, just like you, are making the switch to business opportunities that allow them to work from home.

If you are interested in joining the growing number of individuals who work from home, you will need to find a work at home job or a work at home business opportunity. A work at home job is similar to most traditional jobs. With a work at home job, you will still be working for someone else, but you will be working from the comfort of your own home. A work at home businesses opportunity will not only allow you to work from home, but it will also allow you to be your own boss.  If given the choice, many individuals would prefer to find a money making business opportunity versus a job.  If this is the case, you are advised to start reviewing all of the opportunities that are out there.

In your search for a money making business opportunity, it is likely that you will come across an opportunity which offers you the private label resell rights to a particular product.  Those products may include, but should not be limited to, e-books, mass collection of content articles, or software programs.  Some of the best offers include ones that offer the resell rights for e-books. This is because the popularity of e-books is rapidly increasing. Instead of borrowing a book from the library or buying a new book, many individuals are reading books that come in the form of an e-book.

With this business opportunity, you will need to find an individual or company that is offering their e-book resell rights for sale. When searching for e-book resell rights, it is advised that you examine a number of different offers.  You will find that these offers tend to vary from person to person. Once you found an e-book, that you feel will be easy to sell, you need to inquire about purchasing the private label resell rights.  Depending on who you are doing business with, this cost may be high; however, it is important to keep in mind what you are getting.

Individuals that are placing their e-book resell rights on the market are mostly likely the original author of the e-book. This gives them the ability to place restrictions on the reselling that you are allowed to do. If these restrictions exist, they should be outlined before you agree to do business. Depending on what these restrictions are, they may have a positive or negative effect on your ability to sell the e-book.  Common restrictions include advertising methods, the altering of materials, or author rights. In many cases, you are not only able to sell the e-book, but change a portion of it and then claim it as your own, but this is not always the case.

As you can see there are a number of important factors that must be examined when it comes to obtaining the resell rights to a well written e-book.  If you are interested in this business opportunity, you are encouraged to familiarize yourself with it before making any final arrangements. After your examination, you may very well find that this opportunity will not only allow you to quit your job, but cut back on your weekly expenses.

Are You Already Marketing On The Internet?

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Take a moment to think about how you would really answer this question. If given enough thought just about any business owner who utilizes the Internet for any purpose will likely find that whether or not they intentionally organized an Internet marketing campaign, they may already be marketing their products and services on the Internet. This article will examine some subtle ways business owners may already be marketing their business on the Internet.

Do you have a website for your business? Business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their products or services online just by virtue of the fact that they have a website online. Having a live website means there is the potential for curious Internet users to access your website. You may not be actively promoting your website but you may still find that your website generates interest in your products despite the lack of promotional endeavors; this is a form of passive marketing.

Do you participate in message boards and include a link to your website in your signature? Again business owners who answer yes to this question are already marketing their website online. Savvy business owners realize the importance of participation in industry related message boards to create an interest in their products and services, establish themselves as knowledgeable about the industry and offer a link to their own website even if it is in the signature line of their posts. However, even business owners who do not realize this may already be inadvertently enjoying the benefits of Internet marketing which result from message board participation just by doing something they enjoy and may be doing as a form of leisure activity.

Do you include keywords which are relevant to your business in the content of your website? Business owners who answer yes to this question are also already marketing on the Internet by optimizing their website for these keywords. These search engine optimization (SEO) affects the websites whether or not they were even aware of the concept of keyword density and how it can help to SEO a website. Business owners will likely use certain words often depending on the type of products and services they offer just because it is natural and logical to do so. This tendency, however, can result in search engines boosting your website rankings for these particular keywords. The concept of SEO is much more involved and complex than simply using keywords frequently but business owners can gain some benefit just by naturally applying relevant keywords to their website.

Do you solicit feedback from your customers online? This is yet another example of how business owners may be accidentally marketing their business on the Internet. Most business owners realize the importance of soliciting feedback from customers for business purposes and business owners who offer products online might solicit feedback in the form of online surveys. Although the business owners may be doing this simply for a business purpose the fact that it is done online makes it fall into the category of Internet marketing.

We have already discussed several ways in which business owners may already be marketing online but what about business owners who want to have an increased online presence? Business owners who may already be marketing online accidentally may wish to launch a full scale Internet marketing campaign. The best way to do this is to hire a consultant with experience in Internet marketing to assist you in creating a campaign which is effective for your target audience.
